By definition, Library parts can't be changed. You would need to create a new Project or modify an existing project and change your settings so your directory in question is included in your Work Group search paths.

Just insert the picture rather than attaching it as a file

I have the same problem, and blair's answer is not helpful. I created the locked .iam file as an assembly -- why is it now considered a "library" and not editable anymore?

For some reason the main forlder which is set as active project have been set as library!!! You can change that as follows:

1) Launch Inventor
2) Click on Projects tab
3) Make sure you have activate the right project file (double click to set as default)
4) In the tablate underneath go to "Libraries"
5) Under that you should see one or more paths with the name of your active project folder/file
5) Delete those paths
6) Done! 🙂

Hope that worked.
