Broken Tutorial Problem Fix: FYI

Hi All,

I was having a problem on one of my machines (2008 Pro)that wouldn't open the tutorial section of help, as well as other (what turned out to be) scripting issues within the help menu. I searched for ages, but couldn't find any info on this forum that referenced the problem.

After a few hours of searching I came across this article and did what it said. Now everything's working. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/823451
Find the bit where it says to delete a certain registry key and do it.

I have only just done this so I can't confirm if it stuffs anything else up, but it sure does fix the help menu problem. Hope it saves someone some time.

ozstang65,

Often, as a first pass for help related scripting we will suggest the
following:

- Delete all Temporary Internet Files in IE (Tools>Internet Options>General
Tab)

- Check your IE security settings. The "Scripting" settings for Internet,
Local Intranet, and Trusted Sites should be set to enabled or prompt.

- Make sure that you have the latest Microsoft Updates installed.

- Re-register html help control:
1) Go to Start > Run
2) At the Run dialog, type the following:
regsvr32 C:\Windows\system32\hhctrl.ocx

If your system does not find the ocx control at this location, try doing a
search for it on your C drive.

There are certainly registry entries that could come into play but we try
not to resort to suggesting that you edit the registry as your first course
of action.

As the owner of a computer business, you can rest assured that I had already tried everything that you mentioned, as well as quite a few others!

All I can say is that what I did, worked.
