Boy I love face colors

Finally imported SAT and STEP files can be made to look somewhat
realistic... (thumbs up)

Select a face of a surface or feature.  RMB
then select properties.  You can change the face color only (not the entire
feature, which imported files do not have)

Added bonus.  Make a part a transparent
color.  Make a face a non transparent color.  From one side (the non
transparent side), it's the correct color but still transparent.  From the
other it's transparent but a different color.  Nice for dealing with
intricate shell parts when trying to see inside the assembly but still
distinguish one face form another.

How does that translate into the idw?
We do a lot with smoked plexi.
The models are transluc. but the idw doesn't allow the parts to be translucent. It would be nice in our exploded assemblies if we had trans. plex in the idw. we would not have to tweak as much in the ipn. thus allowing the scale in the idw to me larger allowing more detail per idw.
any ideas?

I don't understand I can see thru my clear parts in
an ipn and an IDW of that IPN.  See CF (same topic) for a screen shot
of an IDW of an IPN I just threw together...

2 posts in CF one of the idw one of the iam. showing the loss of translucency (sp). I did not send up the ipn because it shows as the iam shows.

OK, in non-shaded mode all parts are treated as
solid.  AFAIK, to show the translucency you'd either have to use shaded
views or hidden lines showed.

OK thanks I was kind of afraid of that, but it seems like good drafting practice to be that way. The customer wanted to see their logo behind the glass. I will have to show it with hidden lines or maybe I'll just add a front view. Either work around works.
Thanks again.

I believe decals only show up in shaded
mode...

I have not tried decals. our logo are punched thru the steel door which is ususally ivory then we put the smoked plex behind. it looks sharp.

If you don't need a bom, you could make it a reference part.

You know I had never tried to plot a shaded idw. It never dawned on me to do that. Old pencil drawings were always b/w not shaded. Gosh am I getting old. What is a pencil used for in drafting? I an well aquainted with the red pencil... Anyway I just tried printing it shaded. It looks great! I just have to pay attension to my colors more. Maybe we should get a color printer?
