There is no other choice that I am aware of (other than general non-software specific books, you should have one of these as well).

You should have a good understanding of the mechanics you are attempting to simulate before you accept solutions from any software models.  You should be able to reproduce some baseline examples and expand from there.  I haven't read the books you referenced, but I imagine they would walk you through the correct process to vet and apply the methods.  Additionally university text books on mechanics and FEA will give you the background you need to do it yourself.
