Can you give a bit more information: How big are the files? How many parts and assemblies? Are the models Adaptive? Is it the IAM or the IDW that is slow

Main suggestion is to increase your RAM from 16GB to 32GB or more however some main boards and/or computer manufactures will only accept/allow a maximum 16GB at the most, Dell may be one of them, check with you handbook on-line manufactures specs to see if you can add more than 16GB

Secondly defrag your HDs

Thirdly, a bit complex, increase your Virtual memory minimum to be doubled (32768) and the maximum to be 4 times (65536) to whats in your system now

a) Start Control Panel

b) select Systems

c) from the inside select Advanced System Settings

d) Advanced Tab, if not already selected

e) Click on Settings

f) Click on the Advanced Tab

G) Click on Change

h) Make the suggested changes, click on Set, click OK to any prompts, then OK until you out of the Advanced Settings

YOU MAY HAVE TO REBOOT YOU COMPUTER FOR THESE SETTINGS TO CORRECTLY TAKE EFFECT

Fourthly only have open the minim number of programs need, each one even though not in use shells out bit of RAM therefore reducing what you have available.

I disagree with the other posters, unless you're doing something outside the norm I think your system should be performing very well. I have a similar workstation (T5600) and my only limitation is our outdated server.
Where, specifically, are you seeing poor performance?

I'm with Matt, I have an Dell Xeon and don't have issues ... I have 16gigs. I'll stick with what I posted earlier about how the file structure is ..data set, file location

I did see many many times HUGE performance difference between 2.4GHz xeon and 3.3 GHz xeon systems (same VGA, RAM size) - for opening drawings, making changes, etc....

I am really trying to help here but if many "well experienced" guys say it does not matter...no comment...

get the fastes i7 available with SSD and you will be surprised....

ALL based on personal experience over 10 years.....

Richard

Most of the time such observations are done with an old computer thats been in service for some time vs. a brand-new computer, so the differences are more likely to be between accumulated services, legacy installs, and so on rather than the different hardware.
