Basic Issue - About frame and sketch

Hi..

I have a basic question.

When i make a frame ( ex. a  C - profile ) and i want , on the top of the profile to weld a round steel bar do 10mm of diameter.

putting the profile is easy. and when i close the enviroment of the frames.. and open a 3d sketch.... i draw the circle of 10mm   and after that i try to make an extrusion.. and i cannot do it... the inventor wont let me...

and its a basic thing...  make a circle and extrude... but on 3d sketch after closing the frame generator... it wont let me do it...

Help please...

Thx

Can you post a picture of what you are trying to accomplish.

Inventor 2020, In-Cad, Simulation Mechanical

Just insert the picture rather than attaching it as a file

A circle, by definition, is 2D.  Why use 3D sketch for 2D geometry?

Given that there is no Circle tool in the 3D sketch environment - how are you creating a circle?  By projection?

Why didn't you attach your image here?

Yes, your browser shows a 2D sketch at the assembly level (not part level and not 3D sketch as you indicated earlier).

If you had that assembly in front of you what could you do?

You could only cut from the existing assembly.

Notice that the Extrusion preview shows red (Cut function).

You need to either

1. Create the part separately and add the component to the assembly

or

2. Create the part in the context of the assembly.  (Create New Part)

Notice that in your browser below the sketch it says End of Features rather than End of Part.

This means end of Assembly features (which can only be cuts to the existing assembly).

ok.. thx for the tip...

i see i cannot make the draw in the general envoirement.. even if i choose to make a sketch...... it will not work only as you say with a assembly or creating a part...

Project Geometry from the edge of the part you want the bar centered to.

But since you are not experienced with top-down, in assembly context modeling - I recommend that you create the bar separately and then place in the assembly.  You can use the origin plane in the center of the frame member to Mate to the origin plane in the center of the bar.

This would be very easy to demonstrate if you attached your assembly here.

An assembly file (*.iam) is only a list of hyperlinks to the part files (*.ipt) and a record of assembly constraints (and a bit more).

You must include the part files.

Add Mate - Flush (or Mate) between the YZ plane of the frame part and the YZ plane of the rod.

(don't have to make them visible like I did in this image - I only made them visible for clarity)
