BackAHL.exe

C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Inventor 6\Bin\backAHL.exe.

I fire up IV6, open the engine.iam, then open the engine.idw.
This backAHL.exe starts using 99% of the CPU resources, and starts eating
memory at about 1Mb a second.
So I give it the 3 fingered salute and end proccess it. Inventor still runs
fine. CPU usage disapears.

Whats the purpose of this backahl.exe?

It makes views in IDW precise. The drawing is trying to go precise hence
the resource drain.

It's the process that generates the views in and IDW. If you have a 2nd
processor you can take advantage of this process's multithreading
capability...

BTW once you have end-tasked a backahl.exe during an inventor session, it
will never start up again until inventor is restarted. So just be aware why
all views are red icons..

We I let it run while I had a coffee break, it ran for just over 2 min @ 99%
CPU, used up 64Mb of Memory then stopped.

Thanks for the info everyone thank answered.

FYI it only runs at 99% if you do absolutely nothing. Once you do things
(like real work), it is reduced to minimize interruption. This is a
background process.

Theres a good write up at my site, faq 5007 & 5002 http://www.mymcad.com/

Thanks Drew. That is a good write up. The theory about offloading view generation to a server is exciting to consider. Any idea if any other CAD package does this?

Kudos to you.

99% doesnt mean 99% is used up....it only refers to the "speed" I think, Its
like a car with max speed 100km\h when it reaches 99% it`s not "used
up"....If you put 2 processors in you will have 50% on each....Correct me if
I`m wrong though !
