Hi Guys,
Im a total Noob in inventor, so i dont know if this is possible..
I have an AutoCAD 3D model made up of 3 blocks which are all connected . Each block is made up of multiple solids (structural steel). I was wondering is there a way for me to get the geometry into inventor as an assembly consisting of the 3 blocks each of which are parts?
I've tried exporting the 3 blocks as seperate dwg files and planned to import them, save as parts then open the 3 parts in an assembly, but im having no joy. Any advice on this would be really helpful.

Can you zip and attach the dwg file here?
What happens if you Explode the blocks and run the List command (what are the enitity types)?
What happens if you set the Options on Open to import all types?
(there is more to this than I have time to get into right now, attach the file if you can)
What happens if you run acisout and then import the *.sat?

I can't post the file unfortunately. I have tried setting the import options and it pulls in the cad geometry as seperate solids, as does everything else i have tried.
The acisout wont work with blocks, only single solid objects. If i explode im left with lots of solid objects but i want them to be recognised in Inventor as a group so exploding seems not the best idea.

Inventor dosen't recognise groups.
I think that your best best is to save each bloack as a seprate DWG file. Convert each one into Inventor as an IPT. Put all the parts into an assembly (Grounding them at 0,0,0) and then demote them into subassemblies...

Sounds like you need a sub-assembly in Inventor.
