another way: this would be best if you wanted to
try a few what-if scenarios.
- copy the parts that are going to change to
a new directory
- create a new project with this new directory as
the "personal workspace for group project"
- define the "group project file" as the IPJ of
your existing project
- make this new project the current
project
- modify your copied files, and open your
assembly
the assembly should find the modified files first
and not look any further. then it will find the rest of the files that didn't
change because the first instance of them will be in the workgroup
directory.
If you're changing parts in the assembly, you
should consider the other methods mentioned or look into design views where you
could control the visibility of parts.

Save
copy as on both the assambly and the drawing.
Temporary rename the old assambly.
Open the new drawing, when it cant find the old assambly, point to the new
assambly.
Save.
Rename the old assambly to its original name.
