Application options

The application option in Inventor 2012 will not save after I close out Inventor. I can change any setting in the application option and apply them as long as I don't close out Inventor. I exported my application settings and then imported them in and still when I shut down inventor the settings go back to the default settings. What can I do to correct this problem.

Do you have proper Windows permissions? (At least a Windows Power User or Admin)

Try logging in as an admin on your computer and see if it works then.

Is Inventor crashing.. (When it crashes it doesn't save anything changed in that last session)

Check "Task-Manager" to see if you also have an instance of Inventor running that didn't close properly. Changes are saved/written upon proper exit of the program.

Folks,  I too am experiencing this VERY annoying behavior. I am an Administrator on my machine, I am running Inventor as an administrator, I have exported my handfull of Application Option changes to the appropriate .xml file, I have successfully imported said changes in the next start-up, there are no other instances of Inventor running in the Task Manager, I have shut down cleanly each time.

Yet, every time I start Inventor, it loads with the OOB settings.

I don't know if this makes a difference, but my 2012 Product Design Suite Premium was installed via a deployment without uninstalling the earlier deployment of 2011 PDS Premium.

Same problems for me. I suppose (I hope not!) I will have to completely uninstall and reinstall. But I'll wait a few days to see if anyone else weighs in on this post.

I doubt that reinstalling will help anything.  This appears to be a problem with permissions in your Windows user profile, probably involving the registry.  I have had partial resets of App Options to defaults, but only rarely and randomly, as far as I can tell, and only in Inventor 2012 (I still have 2010 & 2011 installed, too).  But if I recall correctly, other users have tried reinstalling to correct this issue without success.

@sbixler

Thanks for that, but I went with the uninstall/reinstall anyway.  For me at least, it seems to have worked. Not only am I able to save my configuration changes, but Inventor seems to be running more smoothly and a bit quicker than before.  It must have been a buggy install "from the get go". It might have been helped by the Disk Cleanup and Defrag I performed after the uninstall.

I can't speak for the OP, but my issues seem to have been resolved!

Glad to hear it worked out for you.  I'm hoping that 2013 will resolve these occasional issues for me.

For me this was the solution:

  1. Save your correct application options from Inventor to a known location
  2. Close Inventor
  3. Start regedit
  4. Go to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER / Software / Autodesk
  5. Rename / Delete key: Inventor
  6. Close regedit
  7. Start Inventor
  8. Load the correct application options into Inventor from the known location

Succes,

Jan
