All instances in an ipart derived into a new ipart

We have a component which is very suitable for ipart. It's a circular blind flange with various dimensions as outer diameter, bolt circle, etc. The first level/ipart is a blank. This ipart contains many instances. The second level/derived ipart is a machining with a threaded hole. All instances from first level/ipart must be transferred to the second level/ipart. The preferable transfer methode to be used is the derive function. The problem is to keep the connection between level 1 and level 2 so all changes at level 1 is updated to level 2. It's some type of "multi derive" we are looking for.

When we are using the derive function it is only the active ipart which is derived. We want all iparts to be derived at the same time.

Hi!

Do you mean instances as parts in one assembly?

For this case, itĀ“s better to have an iLogic Assembly with all (or some) parameters linked between the parts and drved by the mais assembly.

If it is only one part, why two levels, you can have all the features in the iPart and supress features for each case and have also custom parameters for each family member.

Hi Steve,

You are asking for the ability to change the derived component after it has been derived to a part file, are you not? In a similar fashion as it is with the iParts used in assembies. If so, then that functionality has been asked for many a times before. And, of course - it hasn't been delivered.

One of the way to do what you ask for is to create iPart with different elements of it suppressed. That way everything can be handled from one Factory part.

Best Regards,

Igor.

Hi! iPart/iAssembly was not designed to fulfill the workflow you are attempting. You have found an innovative way to utilize iPart. There is nothing wrong with that. Derive part does not support switching source file. The source in this case is an iPart factory which should be unique. As long as you are not trying to swtich member files as source, maybe iLogic can help in this case.

Thanks!
