2008 Content Center Problem

I have migrated my IV10 content center to 2008. Problem is it no longer is a read/write library. It only works as a read-only library. This is not acceptable however, because we have to be able to change, and add to it. What am I suppose to do now!

Hi Shawn,

I am not sure why the R10 library was imported as read-only but you should be able to change it to read/write easily.
- Launch ADMS Console (Windows Start menu > Autodesk> Autodesk Data Management> ADMS Console)
- Select the library that was imported from R10
- Right mouse click and uncheck Read-Only check box – see the attached picture.

Thanks, Mila

I already knew how to do that. The problem is that after I do that it becomes unusable because it says it needs to be updated. When I try to update it I get a bunch of errors that I am not sure what to do with. I will have to investigate this a little more I guess before I can give too much more information. I am using an old export just for testing purposes, so maybe I need to get a more recent export and try this again at a later time.

I am not sure what you mean by the old and more recent export.

White paper Instructions for the migration of Inventor 10 user Content Center libraries into Autodesk Data Management Server (ADMS) 2008 to use in Inventor 2008 can be found:
http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/index?siteID=123112&id=8410930

Please let me know how you doing with the migration.

Thank you,
Mila

Two questions for you. This white paper doesn't have anything in it about uninstalling Autodesk Data Management Server 4 in it. Do I not have to do this then? Back when I tested IV 11 I thought this was a requirement before the new ADMS could be installed. Second question is my mdf file is about 5 GB. Can I import that big of a library through the Content Center Library Manager or do I have to do something else?

Yes, you will have to un-install ADMS4 (if present) prior to installing
ADMS2008.

ADMS2008 will detect the existing AUTODESKVAULT MS-SQL instance so you do
not have to re-import your library. When the ADMS-Console is invoked at the
end of the install it will migrate the library in place, and ask you if you
want to use it from Inventor 11, Inventor 2008, or both.

There is no Content Center Library Manager anymore ... in Inventor 11 its
functionality was integrated into Vault Manager, and in Inventor 2008 it was
renamed to ADMS-Console.

If your library is 5GB, then I assume that you are using full SQL (since
MSDE was limited to 2GB and SQL/Express is limited to 4GB).

Nobody has answered the second question yet. Will I be able to import a database over 2 GB using a full SQL installation? I know I can't using MSDE which is why I can't just test this whole thing. We don't have another SQL server just sitting around for testing purposes. I have been talking with my VAR and he is telling me I am going to have to upgrade/migrate to MSDE 5 first and then upgrade/migrate to MSDE 2008. The white paper posted in this post didn't mention anything about that. I guess I am also wondering what the difference is between doing a backup, and exporting the database and then importing it back in.

If you have a 5GB library then you need full SQL (either 2000 or 2005 are
supported). There is no such thing as MSDE 2008 ... perhaps you are
referring to SQL-Express? If so, SQL-Express has a 4GB limit so you will
not be able to import a 5GB library into it.

You can backup/export from a server that utilitizes MSDE or full SQL 2000
and restore/import to a server that utilitizes SQL-Express or full SQL 2005
(the above limits apply).

An export makes a copy of a single library while a backup makes a copy of
all libraries & values plus the "master" vault.
