materials library

I wanted to add architectual fiberglass to my materials library, however, there does not seem to be any fiberglass material there.... I am designing a greenhouse using t-slot aluminum from mintech (similar to bosch system), but it is expensive for the columns and would prefer 4"x4"x8' architectural columns instead to slash costs on the columns.  My only problem is the material is missing from the library and I am inclined to solve the problem myself.

 

Any ideas?  Isn't there a download somewhere to greatly expand the materials library?

Now Fusion doesn't support user adding/defining the material by userself.

It's a good suggestion anyway. We'll consider this in further release.

I can understand a user not being able to add to the library, but I don't see the full library at all.

 

The company I work for recently purchased Autodesk Simulation Mechanical 2014; with the install came ADS_M 2014 and AD Inventor Fusion 2013.

 

Since then, we've done quite a bit of work learning the software.  I'm seeing that I don't have the same material / hardware access in ADI_F 2013 that I had in ADI Pro or even in Solidworks 2012.  Now specifically, I'm talking about selecting specific material and hardware types (SA 516 70, SA 106 B, 1/4-20 bolt/nut, cylinders, flanges, w-beam, etc.)

 

Twice our network tech has attempted to repair / re-install to get the library, but we've stopped because the option to select the materials library hasn't been available, and I HOPE the library is not an additional cost.

 

Please see Inventro Project Editor 2014 live paste from my machine below and give me some ideas please; we're expecting to be able to select the materials/parts we need, create the assemblies in Fusion then export with ALL data/materials specs traveling with.

 

I got to this by following the directions at this Autodesk wiki link:

C:\Users\Public\Documents\Autodesk\Inventor 2013\Design Data\Materials

 

The above directory is the default installation directory for the Inventor material library, named "InventorMaterialLibrary.adsklib." The library is in red because there is an issue with Inventor getting access to this file or the file has been corrupted.

 

You may want to check to see if the directory is available to the user profile, and that the user profile has read/write access to this directory. Or you may have an administrator log into the machine and see if they have the same problem.

 

You may try removing and then re-adding the library to the project.

Does this library contain any custom materials?

 

I'd also like to note that it is advisable to have the latest service packs and updates installed for Inventor 2013.

As for the workflow, I'd like to understand the intent better. My understanding is that:

1. Design parts in Inventor 2013 with custom material properties.

2. Take these files into Inventor Fusion 2013 and assemble them (maintaining materials)

3. Last these files will move into Simulation Mechanical 2014 with the custom material properties assigned in Inventor 2013

 

Is this correct?

Pretty close.

 

Actually, the workflow is as you mentioned with the exception of the fact that we don't have an Autodesk Inventor (Standard or Pro) license, only Autodesk Simulation Mechanical 2014 and Autodesk Inventor Fusion 2013 R1.

 

 So it's just:

 

  1.   Design in Inventor Fusion 2013 R1
  2.   Import material changes and common parts from Materials library into IF2013 R1
  3.   Export after saving to ADS_M 2014 for FEA analysis

But, I'm concerned that based on how you itemized flow, I must be required to have a license copy of AIPro in order to have access to that materials library.  If so, this is a concern for me as AI, AIPro, AIFusion are all used to design, create and assemble; not having any experience with the first two, I can only assume that all three can be used to push parts and assemblies into Simulation Mechancal.

I'm using Fusion on Mac and I think that the colour slectig of the visual Material will be a "must have" 

 

The visual material library is really small and lets you only a few choices. Thre is no way to make new colours or vary the existing ones??

 

it's planned to change this soon?

Have you considered moving to Fusion 360? It has what you need for materials editing and runs on the Mac also.

Hi vwmeche94,

 

Just thought I would pipe in and add a comment.  If your not aware you can create custom material librarys for Autodesk Simulation Mechanical.  I suggest creating the library in ASM because the material library in Inventor Fusion is not fully defined to meet the needs for a simulation.  E.g.. Fusion has no need for Youngs Modulus or Poisson ratio.
