Inventor Fusion FAQ

1. What is Inventor Fusion Technology Preview?

Autodesk® Inventor® Fusion technology showcases intuitive direct manipulation capabilities for unrivaled ease of use, provides direct modeling for rapid design changes without limitations, and unites direct and parametric workflows within a single digital model.
More information is available on the Inventor Fusion Technology Preview website on Autodesk Labs: http://labs.autodesk.com/technologies/fusion

2. Is Inventor Fusion Technology Preview a new product?

No. Inventor Fusion is a technology preview. In order to reduce risk and make it easy to engage in providing feedback, Autodesk® is delivering Inventor Fusion technology as a unique download and install – separate from your production version of Autodesk® Inventor® software. You can install and use Inventor Fusion Technology Preview with the confidence that it will not affect your product Inventor Install and that it will not overwrite any of your production design data.
Autodesk has a history of releasing technology previews as separate installs. For example, customers who participated in the plastic part and advanced simulation technology previews were able to provide feedback that directly affected how those technologies eventually were incorporated into Autodesk® Inventor® 2010 software.

3. Will Inventor Fusion technology be in the next version of Autodesk Inventor software?

Inventor Fusion Technology Preview showcases several new technologies that offer exciting potential solutions to customer challenges. Autodesk wants customers to be delighted with any capabilities before those capabilities become part of any existing commercial product line. So, Autodesk may incorporate all, some or none of the capabilities found in the Inventor Fusion Technology Preview into future versions of Autodesk Inventor software.

4. How does Inventor Fusion technology unite parametric and direct modeling?

With the introduction of Inventor Fusion Technology, both direct, history-free and parametric, history-based workflows are united. The unique fusion of capabilities enables you to adopt the modeling approach that is most appropriate for the task at hand.
Later this year, Inventor Fusion Technology Preview will deliver groundbreaking new capabilities where changes users make can update into the model's parametric feature history, ensuring critical design intent is maintained - delivering a true bi-directional integration of both design methods. This capability is not yet part of the technology preview available today on Autodesk Labs.

5. How often will you release updates to the Inventor Fusion Technology Preview?

Autodesk plans on releasing a second technology preview this fall. Watch the Autodesk Labs site and blog for more information.

6. How long will Inventor Fusion Technology Preview run?

Once activated, Inventor Fusion Technology Preview will run until January 1st, 2010. Your use of Inventor Fusion is subject to the terms and conditions of Autodesk Labs and the Inventor Fusion Technology Preview End User License Agreement accompanying the download of the technology.

7. In what languages and countries is Inventor Fusion Technology Preview available?

Inventor Fusion Technology Preview is currently available as English-language software for use in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, New Zealand, Singapore, Switzerland, United Kingdom and the United States.

8. Why is Inventor Fusion Technology Preview only available in certain countries?

To ensure the best possible customer experience, Autodesk is starting with a limited release, as companies often do when introducing new products and technology.

9. How do I obtain technical support for Inventor Fusion Technology Preview?

Inventor Fusion is a Technology Preview release and therefore is not supported like for-purchase software from Autodesk. But Autodesk does want to hear about any issues you may have with the technology. Please report technical issues to labs.iv.fusion@autodesk.com

10. How can I provide feedback to Autodesk about Inventor Fusion technology?

Autodesk wants to hear your feedback, comments, and questions about Inventor Fusion Technology Preview. Your feedback helps us make better products for you. Please send an email to labs.iv.fusion@autodesk.com or visit the forum and participate in the user discussions. Thanks and we look forward to hearing from you.
