Is it possible to hook into the Inventor Vault addin?

Overall goal: Prevent user from checking in an item that has the same stock number as somethign else in Vault.

I'd like to hook into the Inventor Vault addin checkin event.  I'd also like to use the same Vault session the addin is using.  Is any of this possible?  I don't see an api that would let me hook into the Inventor Vault addin.
