to all computer gurus
we have a network in our company and sometime two people need to open the same file at the same time .

is there any way to know who's opening a specified drawing?
or this is impossible?

What?

To open one drawing by 2 or more different person? Impossible in AutoCAD.

To know who's opening a specified drawing? It depends of your network
operating system and how AutoCAD is running. Almost impossible...

l know opening the same drawing for editing in autocad is impossible i just want to know who's the user working on the same file that i need to work on, so i caN CALL HIM AND
maybe ask him to close the file or ask him how long it will take him to close the file.
because it's really difficult to guess with 120 employees.
that' my main concern.

Only one person can open drawing for editing, however many people can open
it with "Read-only" checkbox checked.
It's very possible track who opened the drawing via some little ARX
programming with editor reactors.

I'm not trying to say anything. I'm saying that dwg activity tracking can be
implemented via editor reactors. And I implemented it to some of my clients.
Ask in a customization group if there are any ARX or Vlisp freebies of the
tracking sort available.

Try this http://www.ctyme.com/marxdoc/doc0102.htm

There are some rights issues that you'll have to deal with for netware but
it should work

You can actually have tow people working on the drawing at once if you
like...sort of. Try looking into the features of Map. It'll let you query
objects from one drawing into your current session, edit them, then save
them back. Very similiar to refedit in A2K. Just another option.

Novell has a program called whohas that will tell you
who has any file open. If you can't find it on their
site then email me and I will send it to you.
