restart license server

Is there any way to reset (stop and start) the license server software on a server from a client computer? The license manager is on a server which only two individuals in the IT department have access to. A license got locked up in a crash this morning and it needed to be reset, but neither IT person was available to restart the license server. I had to wait for 3.5 hours...I can't do this again. Any suggestions, or way to restart the license manager from my computer?

If you have a login, use Remote Desktop.

If not, I'm sure 3.5 hours of unbillable time is enough to convince the
boss to either give you access or make sure IT is accessable.

You might try looking into using a batch file to start and stop the service.
I believe you would still need some type of rights on the server. Here is a
link to Microsoft on how to get started...
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/166819

You might also try installing the lmtools on your workstation. When you
start the lmtools.exe on the Service/License File tab select Configuration
using License File. In the window enter @yourserver. Then go to the
Stop/Reread tab and try Reread License file button. Not sure if this would
solve your problem either. I use this to check the status of licenses
without having to actually be on the server.

You can not use this method to stop and restart the service though.

Wasn't sure and didn't know if just rereading the license file would solve
the problem.

Oh well.
