i know this has probably been answered but i couldn't find it anywhere. we
have 15 autocad users at my work and i want all of them to have there own
profile and be able to log on to ANY computer and have there autocad setup
exactly the same everytime how do i go about doing this? we're using R14
with 98 on all workstations and nt4 on the server and they're seperate
copies of autocad

NT has roaming profile capabilities. No matter what machine you log on to
you get your profile. Since I don't have much in the line of 95/98, non in
CADD, I am not to sure if roaming profiles are possible in your environment.
However, I do believe that roaming profiles are possible.

I'm not quit sure how you could do it automatically, but you could have them
set-up the world the way they like it, and then export a profile with the
users name. Then when they move to another machine, they can import their
profiles to that machine. Since all it would take for each person is setting
their profile current, this would work in a pinch. The problems will show up
with NT versus 98 pathing for things like plotters or if anyone has created
custom bars, etc.

I'm trying to figure this one out too, but I'm afraid it might require
something more robust on the server end. I know there are some tools for
profile management in the NT environment, but I'm not sure how they work
with 98. Also, from what I understand, this is a real forte of 2000 server,
as long as all the clients are running 2000 pro.

Here is an idea that I've got (if you can't use roaming profiles in Win9x,
which I think that you can and that could solve most of the problems).
Create home directories in everyone's user account and assign a drive letter
to that home directory (e.g. J:\). Make sure that everyone uses the same
filename (e.g. "roaming.arg") for their profile. Now just have the AutoCAD
shortcut use the /p switch to point to that file (e.g. J:\roaming.arg).
Also place the menus and any other user customized files the home directory.
This should work. I haven't tried, so I'm not sure.
