we just upgraded to a linux server running Samba on Netmax. Everything works very good except that with autocad 2000 when a file is saved it converts the file name to all to upper case text (hard to read with long file names). With our Windows NT Server this obviously didn't occur. We are running Windows 2000 Professional on the workstation. Is this a problem that can be fixed through autocad? It doesn't occur with any other programs like Microsoft Word or Excel, etc... only Autocad 2000.

The reason AutoCAD does this and not most other applications is that
AutoCAD's SAVE routine works different. Most applications simply open a file
to write and close it when you are done. AutoCAD places a lock on the file
you "open" and creates a working copy of the file. When you do an AutoCAD
save, the lock on the dwg file is momentarily released, the file deleted and
the working file is copied to the dwg name. This is where the uppercase
thing happens. We have a technical document published on this behavior of
Samba, you can download it at
