killing zombies on FlexLM

With the old Elan thing there was a way to kill off user connections. We
used it every once in a while when a session crashed and didn't release the
license properly. I haven't found the same feature in the FlexLm setup. Is
there a way to do it? I noticed that after a workstation crash, the server
takes quite a while to release the license. We use the UDP transport.

Hi,

I haven't tried it, but the command prompt version, lmutils has an option
caller lmremove, which removes the user. who has crashed out. Check the
syntax by giving the command lmutil /? in the AdLM directory.

You can use the TIMEOUT feature from the Options File. See Chapter 6 in
FlexLM End User's Guide located in your AutoCAD 2002 CD at
\Netsetup\Support\Adlm\Docs\FlexUser

I see what you mean. I didn't realize that the GUI version of lmutil
doesn't have all of the options that are in the command line version.
Thanks, Mark

That looks like a good idea. Will this cut off users who leave the program
running but idle on their workstations, or will it only reclaim a license
that is dead as the result of a workstation crash?

Timeout will NOT reclaim licenses from a user who has left autocad running.

Jason is right. Even though Flex supports timeout, the Autodesk daemon
doesn't. There is a good explanation however. What if you set timeout to 30
min and someone sets his AutoCAD to do a huge rendering job? There are no
calls to the license and to the licensemanager this session seems to be
dead. This is what I've read some time ago on this same forum.

Cheers,

Petri

Well, I've tried killing zombies with the command

lmutil lmremove 40100ARCHDESK_3_3F greg greg greg

and the command completes without an error message, but

lmutil lmstat -f 40100ARCHDESK_3_3F

still lists the user greg with a checked out license. Maybe it doesn't
really let go of it until someone else requests it. I'll test some more.
