What version of autocad are you using? Versions prior to 2004 require either
admin access to the local box to run or some reghacks to open up the correct
areas of the OS.

Power user was the miminum level of access needed so they don't need full
admin rights. But I'm sure you knew that and just didn't mention 😉

I just never cared . I always have given the users here local admin
rights. We track software through another application for stuff that
shouldn't be installed. Just always seemed easier to me to be able to tell
someone, "Run ______" than to have to get up and do it myself.

I only say that becuase, IMO, users should never run as admin and admins
should only run as an admin when they are doing admin activites. If they
are doing something else they should be logged on as a "normal" user. The
"secondary logon" feature of Win2k and newer makes this great. That's just
an opinion though.

Meant to also add, that it's something rarely put into practice, even by me.
(as I run as admin 24/7 in XP Pro at home). As you say, it's just easier 😉

The Linux distros I've played with, set it up the other way around by
default so to run as user and use the secondary logon to do root activities
is easy.

Well see what the next version of Windoze has to offer as well as 2003
server since it's suppose to be more locked down by default....
