Why does Autodesk restricts FlexLM on Windows?

Hi,

FlexLM technology by Macrovision is up-to-date provided for many operating
systems. Autodesk restricts this with the vendor daemon 'adskflex', which
is only available for windows.

What's about this unnecessary restriction to users/administrators?

Cost.

It would cost a lot to develop, test, and support their vendor daemon on
other OS's.

FlexLM already supports Linux, but Autodesk does not. Calls to the license
manager occur over standard networking protocols which are OS independent.
There is no reason it shouldn't work - Autodesk just doesn't want to support
it.

That's it!

There is IMO no need to use a separate vendor daemon behind the 'normal'
FlexLM daemon.

There is a need for a vendor daemon, if you want to support certain features
such as borrowing. Yes, Autodesk doesn't want to support another OS,
because it's infrequently used.

That's for now unfortunately correct on client side.

But we are talking about license server. And there exists other (better) OS
than M$.
