Vault upgrade options

We are going to be migrating from a Windows 2008 SQL 2008 server to Windows 2012 SQL2012, Vault 13 to 15. I am wondering if an place upgrade is teh best option or should we create an entirely new server. The new server option seems to be the best route, but there are concerns from teh Vault Admin that the server name needs to remain the same. Is this neccisary? We are replicating to a remote site, so teh replication would have to be changed, but what other effects would this have if the old server was ServerA and the new one ServerB?

I would create a new one then migrate. Naming should never be an issue.  You can always change how sync works and even point the old server's DNS name to the new box or create a hosts file to take care of any of those issues.  People migrate servers all the time.  I think it sounds like your IT is being lazy or scared.  ha!

Actually I am the IT guy, the Vault admin was worried about the name change. I figured i can setup DNS or have him change th r eplications, but my concern was that when sql is installed it's going to inherit the machine name. I'm not familiar with how sql works with vault so i wasn't sure if that would break the existing db import. Thanks.
