User Deployment for Network License

We are a small company and I'm not into networking. We have loaded the network license for AutoCad 2006 and one user computer was loaded and works fine as a client, but no one remembers how it was loaded. Do I load from the CD or from a server file? I need details. Thanks.

Hi,

Search on your server you must have an image deployment.
Normally from a computer client go through your network neighborhood and
search for a share where is AutoCAD image.
You will have a directory named Adminimage.

O.K. I have an Adminimage folder. Do I use the MSI file or the Deploy.exe or another file to load the software to the client computer?

Hi,

you must have a file at the same level as the directory adminimage.

There should be a file with a simple name in that folder that is used to
start the installation. Check the Properties - it should start with
.....\deploy.exe followed by the deployment name. Click on that icon to
start an installation, (from a client computer).

I always recommend naming the Deployment 'setup' so that it becomes very obvious which file to click when you deploy.

Good idea! Since I'm IT/CAD manager, I named them for the program being
installed, (I have to deal with 12 different deployment images over 2
locations), so they made sense for me, but "Setup" is definitely more
obvious...

I used the deploy.exe and it loaded correctly, but it still is trying to register the license online instead of finding the license on the server. I still must be missing something. Every time you open AutoCad you get the box to Register/activate or use for 30 days. Other ideas? Thanks.

Hi,

Is it possible that you have more than one adminimage on your server?
Perhaps this image was a standalone image and not a network image.
I fyou can't another adminimage, try to search on this newsgroup the registry modification (not supported by autodesk) to convert a standalone to network AutoCAD.

That is because you CANNOT use the deploy.exe file to load it. You must use the SHORTCUT file outside of the AdminImage folder. It passes the correct setup information to the deploy.exe file that has all of your license server information. Simply running deploy.exe ignores all of your setup and installs the plain stand-alone version.

There is NOTHING in the AdminImage folder that you should be clicking or messing with at all. If you are in the AdminImage folder, you are in the WRONG place.

You are correct, Thanks. The system name for the shortcut was missleading. I renamed it to Setup Client ACad.

It's confusing, I know. 😉

I wish they wouldn't let you give it a name and just force it to be 'setup.'

Oh well.
