I upgraded the product from Autocad Architecture to Revit Architecture Suite at subscription renewal this year. I had already received the Autocad Architecture 2012 upgrade prior to this and have just tried installing this using serial number on the box. Revit suite has a different serial number number on the box (which included Autodesk Architecture). Have tried updating the seriel number using Product License info > update. Whatever I do I keep getting invalid seriel number. Seriel number is exactly as on the upgrade box but the key is the pre-upgrade key which I cannot seem to change. Do I really have to uninstall and do it all again?

You will need to uninstal it and re-install it. The reason is because the Product Key is different.
