Unique R2000i Client installation problem

This is a problem I have never run into before. When installing a network license managed AutoCAD R2000i from a deployment location, the resulting installation is a stand-alone version, i.e. it asks for an authorization code !?!? No matter what I do it will not install so that it pulls its license from the adlm. To make matters worse, the installwise now freezes up during the insatllation routine. I finally gave up and installed Map R2000i which does pull its license from the adlm with no problems. This is the only time that I have ever run into this problem with over 100 installations. Any ideas ?

Thanks - Nick Seman

Was AutoCAD previously installed on this station? If so, was it uninstalled
before installing the network version?

Kevin:

AutoCAD R2000 network was on the machine originally but was uninstalled prior to installing AutoCAD R2000i. Infact, the first attempt at installing R2000i went smoothly but resulted in the "stand alone" result. I suspected something was up when the screen prompting for the user name/company name/dealer name/dealer phone # came up blank instead of displaying the information input during the creation of the deployment file.

After uninstalling the "stand alone" R2000i I was not able to complete an installation again as the machine began hanging up during the beginning stages of the installation process as described in my first post.

I manually attempted to cleanse the registry file but am either missing an entry or that is not where my problem stems from.

Any ideas?

Nick,

You may want to try running regclean on the machine a couple of times until
you don't get an undo file (I've had this help clean up things in the past).
Then boot twice, run regclean again just to make sure, then try to
reinstall. Hope it works.

Later,
John.

This is a long shot, but...

I had a similar problem on machines with hardware locked R.14 installed
previously, when I switched to the ADLM for 2000.
This may not be the solution, but has the machine ever had the Rainbow
Technologies, net sentinel drivers installed?
I had the EXACT same symptoms on machines in my office.
AutoCAD R.14 Uninstall did not solve the problem. Neither did removing ALL
references to AutoCAD in the registry! Nothing worked!
Seems as though the AutoCAD uninstall failed to remove the Sentinel
Hardware Lock application.

I spent months trying to figure out why this was happening to me...
Thought that I was loosing my mind!
Finally I sent all of the installation disks to AutoDesk and they were kind
enough to duplicate the problem, and were able to find the solution.

Do a Find the rainbow sentinel application, like:
sent*.*
I think that it was called sentwin95.exe or sent95.exe or something like
that. (I dont have it anymore, so I cant tell you)
If it is on the machine, there is an uninstall within the application.
I dont envy you on this one...
I probably spent more than 40 hours trying to figure it out. Until
Autodesk gave me the solution, the only fix I could find at the time was to
totally low-level format the hard disk, and re-install the OS from the
ground up!

(I was convinced that AutoDesk had put some kind of non-removable Hook on
the Hard Disk that no one knew about, or would disclose, to catch pirates
who had at one time installed AutoCAD!, I swear, I was loosin it)

K.
