You should use use the setup command to install Maya. There is no need to use command line parameters. If you want to do it, you can review this blog post:

Please not that the instructions are ideal if you do NOT have AutoCAD Mac and Smoke on the same computer as Maya. The adlmreg will basically take out the Maya entry from the .pit file. If you do NOT have AutoCAD or Smoke installed, it's safe to delete files/folders as noted above.
