Unable to activate 3dsMax Design "Error 5"

Hi, I can’t activate Autodesk 3ds Max Design 2013, and haven’t been able to find a solution that works online, so I’m hoping you guys might be able to help me.


Whenever I start, it hangs for about a minute and then I get the error “The software license check out failed. Error 5” I have a valid student licence, which i’ve tried to use on the On-line activation site, but without the Product Request code I can’’t complete it.

 

I’ve already tried uninstalling/re-installing it three times.

 

I’ve “prepared” my computer as shown in…

I’ve installed/run the program as administrator
Run it under XP SP3 compatibility mode
Disabled my firewall, even told my hardware firewall to forward external ports to my machine.
But the exact same problem happens every time.
I’ve also restarted the FLEX service, and set it to automatic.

Driver version: 310.61
Dedicated video memory: 1024 MB GDDR5

Additionally I deleted C:\ProgramData\FLEXnet and restarted the service as mentioned in another post, but that didn't help either.
