Trouble with Inventor 2014 install, student version

Hi, first time poster, fairly new user to Inventor.

I had Inventor 2013 student version installed for last years coursework; I'm now in an intermediate Inventor class that is using 2014 so I uninstalled 2013(using all recommended removals, registry etc) and then installed 2014.

2014 is working but has a few issues: the initial issue I noticed right away was that the material libraries weren't available, I located them and they are in the locations Inventor is referencing but I can't get them to function.  I eventually just gave up and have been drawing without appearances.

The current issue I'm experiencing is that I am trying to Copy As an ipt file to a dwg file.  This crashes Inventor and I recieve the error-reporting popup.  Once I enter my email, the popup recommends I install SP1.  I have attempted this install numerous times, closing out of all programs, no security programs running, and installation fails each time.

Thanks for any help -

ok.... if no one can answer(or wants to), can someone tell me if the lack of support is because I'm working on Student Version? or should I rephrase the question? or is there's another reason I'm getting no answers? Any pointing towards the right direction would be extremely appreciated. I'm fairly computer literate but new to CAD. Thanks!

I would uninstall it using the quick Uninstall Utility.

Then use a browser download to install the software (Inventor 2014).

I would also check that your video card is powerful enough to run Inventor (Mobile).

When you reinstall it, if you expand the accordian, you will see an option to include the SP.  It will look similar to this:

Hi, thank you very much for the reply and information.  It appears I've overlooked the obvious and my graphics card isn't good enough.  I'm running on an HP Probook 4530s and it has an Intel HD 3000 card; it ran last years software fine so I didn't give it a second thought.   Is there any kind of workaround for this? .  Thanks again for your reply and help.

For laptops, you can't really upgrade the video card.  Typically, older versions of the software play a bit better with lesser graphics.

1.  The crash could be caused by graphics.

2.  Updating to SP may help so you can give that a try.
