Transferring 3DS Max licence to 2nd operating system on a duel boot machine.

Hi,

Im having trouble transferring my Autodesk license from one operating system to another.

My situations is Im running XP and Windows 7 on the same machine (duel boot). I have 3DS Max and other Autodesk software (Education Suite 2010) installed on XP and I want to move it on over to Windows 7. I cant run it from the XP hard drive when in Windows 7 because its recognising it as another computer or something of the sort. Ive tried the license transfer utility but I get "The serial number you entered is not valid for the product you are trying to activate. Try again. (Error 123)".

I have a standalone license Im pretty sure.

Thanks in advance.

This could be difficult the license is bound to the computer in a way that if you use 3ds Max in both OS’s their activations will step on and maybe invalidate the other.

It might be saying the serial number is invalid because your 2011 release has been activated.

What is it that you are trying to do?

Id like to deactivate the license on XP and reactivate on Windows 7. Im trying to move all my software over to Windows 7 and won't be using it on XP any more.

I bought the version where the license doesn't expire every year. I forget the exact wording but there was a cheaper 12 month license and a more expensive infinite license. I have the infinite license (so I wont be upgrading from 2010).

Cheers

Right it sounds like you purchased an perpetual license. An educational license of this type is available at a reduced cost, when compared to commercial pricing, because it is not licensed for use commercially and does not include support from Autodesk .This forum, the reseller you purchased the Application from, and your fellow students would therefore be your support.

Try the automated activation. If that does not work then contact us through the information bellow and the Activations team will provide you with activation. It would be best to uninstall them from XP so that you do not create future problems and a need to reactivate.

Let us know how things work out.
