Software Lock with XP and R13

Hi,
Ok R13 is technically dead, but it WAS state of the art and is STILL fine
for my one man practice.
However, having done a clean install of XP pro, killing my old W2k along the
way, I am now in deep doo doo.
The SWLock will not recognise the dongle.
I have downloaded and run the RTS Update for XP but it has no effect.
I can't be the first old timer still using R13 who has upgraded to XP, so
what to do????

Having posted this query, I came across the solution in a different part of
the forum.
Consequently, I have copied across the solution to the problem.

I had an identical problem with a clean install onto a new pc with windows
xp.
i figured the problem would centre around the sentinel hardware lock that
came with my uk standalone version. (sentinel superpro)
i visited the rainbow website http://www.uk.rainbow.com/support/index.html
and downloades the new drivers from this page
http://www.rainbow.com/tech/downloads.html
once i'd installed this, Autocad r13 has worked perfectly.
I'm not sure which region your copy of autocad is localised to, and whether
this would make a difference - if you're in the us perhaps you should
download from the us tech website etc.

hope this works, good luck

Dale Gavin.

Dale, It sure did.... thanks, Granville.

Granville,

Just for the record, R13 never used Software Locking technology, the RTS
would never have been of benefit as hardware locks do not use it.

Hi,

Granville, you might try getting the newest Rainbow Sentinel driver from
http://www.rainbow.com. It supports the R14 dongle under XP and this is the
same dongle (at least the newer R13 dongles) as R13. You may also have to
tweak the HW settings of the LPT-port in the HW Management module of XP. I
tried this and got it to work but my R13 and dongle are relatively new (same
format as R14). If I remember correctly there were at least two different
dongle models used with R13.

Thanks for the suggestion.
I got another post, which I copied to here but has not shown up, also
suggesting I got the lastest XP drivers from Rainbow. This in fact worked
fine and it kicked in without problem.

Hope that anyone else hitting this problem does the same thing with the same
success.
See link below.
