Slow DWG load when attached to network

    Hi All,

Have a strange performance issue with ACAD 14. I have an NT Server 4.0 that we keep all our drawings on. The drawing I am loading is 5MB in size. It loads extremely slowing from the server. If I copy the file to the workstation, and try to load it, it also loads extremely slowly. If I unmap the network drive, it loads quickly. Any idea what ACAD is doing when it sees the network drive? Its not traffic, I disconnected everything and made a station to server 100mb direct link with no change, and the file copies from the server to the station in no time. Any ideas?

We experienced a similar slow down in performance of our workstations when
we switched to an NT server from Novell. Tried the same things you describe,
and got the same results. Our network manager made a few inquiries and the
long and the short of it is NT isn't as good (as far as fast access to files
for acad/mech desktop is concerned) as Novell. We still haven't got back to
the speed we saw with Novell yet :-(

Hi, I experienced similar things. For a long time speed was no problem while
only one ACAD R14 was connected to the NT Server. After having the second
machine running for three weeks, the first machine began to slow down from
one moment to the other. Tried some cleanings (registry, unneeded files,
etc.). But no success. Speed on our second machine is as fast as it ever
    was.

    This is just a suggestion
Try your updating network card driver, personally I have had trouble with
some older 10/100 3com cards(3c515) it was great in win 95/98 but in NT
10-15 minutes working with a 5mb file. Check on your card vendor site for
any info. Check Page file size , if you have 2 drives move it off c: to d:
then reboot and move it back to c: to help get rid of any fragmentation.
SCSI drives are better to use on a server if you can afford them , IDE
tends to use more CPU time but if you use IDE try to get the fastest ones
    you can find.

    Hope this helps
