Shared Files and No Network Connection

I'm going to be setting up a network deployment of ACElectrial 2011 and will be setting up the deployment so that users share the symbol libraries, catalog database and support files. Since these are stored and shared from a central location and not locally to each users computer, what would happen when the network connection is lost (assuming an instance of AC was opened prior to network loss) or if a user wishes to borrow a license to take on the road for a few days? Does it then point to a new default location local to the machine? Thanks!

With network outage, the functioning of AutoCAD will be lost once your machine pings the server. The refresh rate (interval for pinging) for the same can be set in the Options File. Please refer Network Installation Guide for more information.
A warning message should again pop up for the utilization of Support Files over the network too.

Thank you for the response.

So is there a way or work around for the following example:
-AutoCAD is installed with the shared support files/libs etc. stored at on a server and a tech borrows a license to use while on the road (no connection to the server).

Thanks

I would imagine it would work of you sync offline files and make mapped drives available offline. But that kind of defeats the purpose of having the files on the server, doesn't it?

Figured out my problem. Before posting I was trying to copy the files/directories from the server and copy them locally so ACE would default to local locations, but couldn't get correct paths going. Turns out the AeData directory was in another AeData folder so that was messing things up. Fixed that and everything seems to work just fine.

Anyway, the plan will be to have users who will borrow a license to sync (thanks Travis) the files on the server to their machine. This will allow them to have all the custom/shared aspects they would normally have acess to when on the network. Going on the road does not happen that often and most likely while on the road the users will not be creating additional custom blocks, templates etc. If they do they'll just have to do it again or sync up the file(s) with the server assuming no additions/changes have been made to the files while they were gone. Any new drawings created on the road can be remapped once they return.

So far it all seems to work, but we'll see as time goes on.

Thanks again.
