There isn't really a way to do this with the elan adlm. It's virtually impossible to
create two machines with the same server code. The server code that is created can depend
on a number of different things on the machine like ethernet address, ip address, os etc.
When LDDT and Civil go to the 2002 versions the "server code" binds only to the ethernet
address so you can simply steal the network card out of one machine and put it in another
install the adlm software and you are ready to go.
With the elan version you can create a redundant server pool using 3, 5, 7 ... servers and
as long as over half of the servers are up you will still be able to get licenses (you can
create a redundant pool with the Flex version as well). For me this is more complicated
than it is worth, but your mileage may vary. I currently have a P150 that does nothing
but issue acad licenses. No one uses it for anything but to get acad licenses. I think
that it has crashed once in the last 2 years, and simply pressing the reset button had
everything restored.
If you are really worried about this you could build a second machine and have the adlm
software installed. If you adlm server crashes, then you already have the os / adlm
configuration setup. All you have to do is call Autodesk with the new server code and get
the new auth codes. The phone call, getting and typing in the auth codes wouldn't take
more than 30 minutes.
