We are running 8 copies R13 all on identical hardware saving drawings to a
Novell Network 3.12 directory. One copy has started returning an "unable to
save drawing..." error message on save and renames it .ac$ (on the network
directory). Does any one know why?
    Please use plain text.

Does this happen regardless of who is logged on that system? This sounds like a permissions issue. When AutoCAD "Saves" it goes through a delete
and rename routine. If the logged on user does not have permission to delete files, one gets the results you describe.

if i remember there should not be an .ac$ since in a network each user must
have a different extention set in their preferences to avoid file lock
issues, if that was the case nigels could be .ns$ if he so chose. this would
also make it easier to track whose permissions need checking

We are running R14.01 on a Novell 4.12 system. The Autocad software is executed from local workstations, and the drawing files are stored on the
    server.

We open the drawings from the server. Example....
    Open
    H:\JOBS\99\99000\03\PIPING.DWG

We notice the same error message ""unable to save drawing...".
After the error message, there are "atmp" files in the server directory where
the drawing is stored. Also .ac$ files....

I understand there is an on-going problem between Novell and Autodesk over
file locking. The dwk file seemed like a nice solution, since we were able to quickly
    resolve locked file problems...

Anyway, when the "atmp" files show up, there are also strange .bak files.
    Such as 8385bak.bak 7236bak.bak .
This occured while the designer was working on a file named 102.dwg.

    Any clues????????????????
