Roaming Profile Issue

I have users with trouble logging on to another machine and running
Acad. The message they get when starting the program is:
Fatal Error: Invalid configuration path \ filename C:\documents and
settings\montagne\local settings\application data\autodesk\autocad
2004\r16.0\enu\

If I copy the acad2004.cfg into that folder, everything works great.
What goes wrong here? I can't even find that file in the profile that
is stored on the network.

They need to be at least "Power User" on each machine they use.

All users are Administrators on their own machines.

You just answered your own question: They are Administrator on their own
machine only. Not somebody else's. By default, they are plain old "User" or
"Guest" at best.

Put "Domain Users" into the machines local "Administrators" group. This way
any domain user will have Adminsitrator rights on that machine.

Great idea. But even adding a particular user to the administrators
group did not allow him to run Acad. Isn't there some setup that
happens with new users? How do you force it to run?

Michael,

This is a known issue and Autodesk has an updated userdata.dll file which
needs to be downloaded and installed.

Check out their support pages at the below url (or do a search on their site
with the keywords profile and 2004)

Ricky

Hey Guys,

I see you found UserData.dll was updated. This allows secondary install to
kick off so that the local settings are in place. What was happening is the
roaming settings were pushing down from the server when you logged on. But
the Local settings where the CFG file lives was not there. UserData.dll
solves that issue.

Also just to add to the thread. You DO NOT need to be an administrator or
Power User for this. Microsoft is pushing every one towards using these
folders because on a locked down system these will have full read and write
while every thing else is read only. So you can even have your users be
just users on these systems if you like.

Hope this helps.

Bud

I agree with Sandy. I have mucked about trying to get my Map2004 to accept
me as the user for more than a month now but to no avail. If I log on to my
pc as another user, everything is fine, but if I log on as myself I get the
dreaded "Fatal Error: Invalid Configuration path\filename: C:\Documents and
Settings\engUsername\Local Settings\Application Data\Autodesk\AutoCAD
2004\R16\enu\" message.

I am sysop and all AutoCAD users have domain user and domain admin
privileges.

I have spoken several times to the supplier and emailed who knows how many
different people, but still to no avail.

I am quite annoyed as I am using a "Stand alone lic" version, but my pc is
actually on a WIN2000 network, so why should it be a problem anyway?

Yes, I have downloaded the updated UserData.dll file and installed and
logged off and stood upside down on my chair with my tongue protruding to
the left, (or was it the right) but still the same error message.

Yes, I have deleted my WIN2000 profile both from my pc and the server to no
avail.

Yes, I have re-installed MAP2004 but immediately get the same error message.

Yes, I have installed the software on another pc, done the plu, and after
logging on as myself, come up with the same old error message.

We are a comparatively small firm with 9 LD3 licences and the 1 MAP2004 at
this stage, but looking to upgrade at least 5 LD3s to 2004 and the balance
to MAP2004, but I dare not try it at this stage until I can get 1 copy to
run reliably.

Autodesk, please tell me where the file is that gives the instruction to
look for the .cfg file in my WIN2000 profile, so I can modify/delete/burn or
whatever is necessary to make your software work.

I am having the same problem, but with autocad 2005. The autocad 2004 dll will not fix it. Any suggestions? Is this thread still live?

Oke, i have found this problem also on many schools where i install autocad. The userdata.dll file doesn't work here for some reason.

The follow steps i've made to let it work.
1 login as admin and open acad.
2 copy the .cfg file to a network path.
3 add a parameter to the shortcut from autocad following
/c /pathconfigfile/configfile.cfg
4 login as user
5 start autocad.

Users must have rights to see the .cfg file. Hopes it works for you to Message was edited by: Gerrit

My solution to this problem has been to create a network deployment of stand alone type, and redirect all the configuration paths to the all users profile. Then I only have to run it once as administrator and it works for all my users (who are power users, not admins).
