Revit Architecture 2011 Installation Problem

Ok, I have Revit Architecture 2010 installed on my C drive. However, I am running out of space on that drive, so I have been attempting to download and install Revit Architecture 2011 to my F Drive, where I have 263 Gb's of space left. The plan was that once I got 2011 up and running, I would remove 2010, thus freeing up space. I thought this would be a great plan, except I have encountered the following issue(s):

In attempting to download Revit Architecture 2011 to my F drive, the download process eats up 2.6 Gb's of space on my C drive. As I only have 5 GB's of space left on my C drive, this is a problem. I have downloaded it 5 times over the past few days, same thing happens every time.

Then, after spending 5-6 hours downloading 2011 to my F drive, I click on the downloaded file, and Windows XP Pro asks me what program I want to use to open it. I have service pack 3, so my XP Pro is up to date, so what is the problem?

I never had this problem installing Revit Architecture 2010, if anyone could point me in the right direction I would appreciate it. Edited by: the1rat on May 9, 2010 5:08 PM

Are you downloading the executable via the "Browser Download or the "Download Manager" ?

Use alternative options to download the executable if you have downloaded the files through any one of these means in your past trials.

I have been downloading it using the browser option from the education community site, as that is the only option that allows you to choose where to download it to.

I spent 6 hours yesterday downloading this program, then when it was at 2.41 Gb's, the download aborted. So I started downloading it again this morning, fully expecting it to pick up where it aborted last night. Unfortunately this did not happen, now I have to wait another 6 hrs to see if it will download, and if I can open it.

I have a life, and people around me are NOT understanding that I have spent now 6 days trying to download and install this program. And quite frankly, I am not understanding it either.

I have even tried downloading the trial version from autodesk's revit website, that didn't work either.

I am just baffled by this problem. I do not want to use the Download option, as it downloads to my C drive with no option to change locations. Tthis just leaves my C drive dangerously low on space, and I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to install it.

I don't know how to explain my predicament in more succinct terms, but I need to complete this so I can go on to other pressing needs in my life.

What extension does the hence downloaded file show?

If not set to .exe please rename it to .exe and try running it.

I finally got it installed by using the download button at the education communities site, and I got it installed. However, as I feared, even tho I installed it to Drive F, it still ate over 3 Gb's of my C: drive.I deleted 2010 from my C drive, but I am still dangerously low on space at 2.07 Gb's.

Are there residual files or folders which I can safely delete to recover this space? I had 5.6 GB's of space on my c Drive prior to installation.

OK, I found the original installation file Autodesk_Revit_Architecture_2011_English_Win3264 Bit on my C drive. It was buried in C:/programs/Common Files/Akami/cache/37309. BTW, the extension on the above file is indeeed .exe, so I assume that if I need to use it in the future I will be able to.. I have moved that file to my F drive, which means I now have 4.66 Gb's left on my C drive, which I can live with.

I am more interested, after having finally acheiving my immediate goals, is why this was such a problem in the first place. Hopefully an explanation would help others in the future with a similar predicament.

Downloading Revit from www.autodesk.com/revitarchitecture-download is known to work for all users. 2.6 GB is the correct size.

If you are on subscription, you can request a DVD from subscription center.

We haven't had reports of such nature and hence it is difficult to deduce the reason for the install not happening after having downloaded the

executible.

In case I come across such issues in future I shall definately post the details it here.
