Remote Access over the internet to Adlm on my Server

Problem: I would like to bring my home computer to school, log onto my network domain, deploy ADT to it. I would then take my computer home, log onto my server at school over the internet, and then start up ADT and have it look over the internet to my server at school for the Adlm to get a license to run the program.

Is this possible and if it is how can it be done? I already have ADT on my home computer and can access my server over the internet but I get a license failed message when I try to run the ADT prograom. It must not be finding the Adlm on my server.

Any help will be greatly appricated.

To do this your home computer will need to be able to contact the adlm server by hostname
and the adlm server will need to be able to contact your home computer by host name. You
also need to make sure that upd port 1422 is open on whatever type of connection you are
using to get from home to the network. I'd recommend that you use a vpn connection to do
this, but your situation my require otherwise.

I really appricate the information you sent but could you be more detailed about how one would go about contacting a server by host name and how my server can contact my home computer by hostname.

Question: When I start acad up on my home computer how is it going to know to look over the internet to my server to get premission to start up and run? Do I need to deploy the program to my home computer over the internet from my server or can I bring my home computer to school and log onto my network domain and deploy it over my network?

Thanks for all the help.

It's going to depend (somewhat) on what type of connection you are making to your school's
computer. When I've done this I've used a vpn connection to connect to our network. I
had to add an entry to the host file (on NT the host file is in
%systemroot%\system32\drivers\etc) that directed any requests to adlmserver to my
adlmserver's ip address. Something like
# A bunch of comment lines
.
.
.
# End of comment lines

127.0.0.1 localhost #This is the only entry in the hosts file by default
10.10.10.25 adlmserver #This is similar to the line that I added

by doing this and including it on my client machine (and specifying the name of the adlm
server in acad) autocad was able to find the license server by host name.

Allowing the adlm server to contact the client by host name is a bit more complicated.
I've set the default gateway on the adlm server to the ip address of our firewall (which
provides our vpn connection). When the adlm server replies to the adlm request, one of
the places it goes is to our firewall (default gateway) and the vpn connection "forwards"
that traffic to me.

I wouldn't recommend installing the client over the internet connection. Brigh the
computer to school and install the client. Make sure you can get licesnses there, and
then start trying it from a remote location.
