Re-installation of Autocad 2004 from my old PC to a new PC

I have an old PC with installed Autocad 2004. I bought recently a new PC and I wanted to pass the Autocad software to the new PC. During the installation I got a message with the error 1.248.1001. I cannot continue because I do not know what does it mean.

Could you help me to find out the re-installation procedure?

Many thanks in advance.

Best regards

giopag

The error is likely occuring because the OS you are trying to install on is too new for AutoCAD 2004. Are you trying to install onto windows 7?

you can try using xp mode: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/products/features/windows-xp-mode

if you do a search on these forums you will also find a 3rd party software called Longbow that other people recommend which isn't free

Hello asburyj,

thank you for the answer. Yes, I am trying to install Autocad 2004 under
Windows 7. My old PC (5 Jahrs old, not so much!) runs also under Windows 7.
I cannot image, that this is he Problem, but... What I also do not
understand is why I get an error advice with a number without an
explanation. It is not so helpful on the part of Autodesk.

It's hard to plan for pontential errors that can happen in future operating systems. Windows 7 was released in 2009 which was long after AutoCAD 2004 came out. I would suggest try installing it in windows XP mode as noted above.

Hello Mr asburyj,

your suggestion to install Autocad 2004 in Windows XP mode under Windows 7
does not work. The caused error is allways the same: 1.248.1001, the error
box has the label MSIEDFA .

Is this error caused because the software is still installed on the "old"
PC?

How is the procedure in general to install the same Autocad on enother PC,
when the current PC is faulty or simply old?

No the error is because the new system has on operating system not supported by AutoCAD 2004. You may need to install windows XP if you still want to use that software.

www.longbowsoftware.com will sell you a fix if you don't want to install XP on your PC or buy an AutoCAD version that works in newer Windows version. You really don't have a lot of options.
