Re - Repeated loss of authorisation

Although we have around 30 PCs running AutoCad, the loss of authorisation is
only affecting one PC. The problem first occurred when the PC was using NT4.
It was recently fitted with a new hard drive and Windows 2000. The problem
has occurred a further 3 or 4 times since this upgrade.

1. Some of the recent request codes were as follows :-

Request / Server code: 0320144541473980
Issue date: 8/29/2002

Request / Server code: 0671446667682005
Issue date: 9/4/2002

Request / Server code: 0680159448033922
Issue date: 9/18/2002

Request / Server code: 4799907842980635
Issue date: 9/26/2002

Request / Server code: 1817660055005970
Issue date: 10/21/2002

2. The contents of the .err file in the AutoCad 2002 is as follows :-

FATAL ERROR: The security system (softlock license manager)
is not functioning or is improperly installed.

I can't recall the error code that was displayed when the authorisation loss
occurred, but I will make a note of it if it happens again.

3. There is no particular event that triggers the problem. It happened
yesterday whilst I was actually using the software. At other times it has
occurred at boot up and other times part way through the day.

a) When a new auth code is entered, the software relaunches right away.

b) It will often run OK for several days or even weeks without any problems.
The PC is switched off each evening and is re-booted each morning.

c) On the rare occasions AutoCad or Windows crashes, this has not affected
the authorisation. I have not had any loss of power supply problems and the
PC is connected to an anti-surge device.

Apart from the upgrade already described above, the PC configuration has not
changed. The OS and AutoCad are installed on an unpartitioned 40Gb NTFS hard
drive. There is also a 6Gb slave drive that is used for data storage only.

Can the C:\C_DILLA be backed up to retreive the license if the file is
corrupted in a system crash?

I'd like to ask for some data that can help me pinpoint the cause. If you're
having trouble on more than one PC, please identify which data goes with
which PC.

1. Can you record some of the "request codes" that were generated on your
systems (not the auth codes generated by us)? They are either 16 or 32
digits long. If there are any associated error codes (such as "Error
[0020]", "Error [6072]"), please include them.

2. Please attach any files with the extension ".err" in the installation
directory.

3. What is the event that triggers the loss of authorization?
a) After entering an auth code, can you relaunch right away?
b) After rebooting, does it run OK, or ask for a new auth code?
c) Does it happen after a crash of AutoCAD, a crash of the OS, or a loss of
power to the system?
d) Do you change the configuration of the PC, such as adding or removing
hard disks, booting into a different OS, or with a different hardware
configuration? Do you restore partition images with software such as Norton
Ghost?

The license is stored in files in the hidden folder "C:\C_DILLA", and is
updated every time the product runs. These files can be damaged like any
other: by a system or program crash, or unexpected loss of power. Running
Scandisk or chkdsk, as appropriate, can sometimes repair a license. It's
also important that these files not be modified during routine system
maintenance (that's why I ask about Norton Ghost).
