I don't know if this will work, but...
There can be a problem with this when items are copied from one machine to another. Many
time shortcuts created on a machine will automagically embed a UNC path such as
\\\admin$ in the .lnk file. When the link is clicked on it tries to get to
that computer.
There is a way to (hopefully) resolve this but it takes at least nt SP4 (I think, maybe
5??) and some registry editing.
The portion of the registry that you need to be in is
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
You need to add a value as follows
Value Name: LinkResolveIgnoreLinkInfo
Data Type: REG_DWORD
Data: 1 (enable)
