Non-reduundant FlexLM Install Question

If you have the FlexLM running on only a single server, and the server goes down or the connection to it is lost, is there a grace period before AutoCAD will not run anymore?

There are some minutes that the server can be down before existing users
need contact with the license server.

Am I correct in assuming that this is still true for 2008?

Also, when a license is checked out, for what length of time can the license be used? Is the time allowed dontrollable in the FlexLM?

It's not disclosed and not adjustable.

Yes this should still be true for the 2008 products as far as I know.
If you mean a borrowed license it is 6 months.

Other than that a license can technically be checked out forever.
Therefore I have it very visible on the html reports JTB FlexReport can
produce if a user has used a license for a long time.

It takes mearly minutes to get your license server back up and running on any other networked machine.

Don't you have to know the mac address of the server to point to? If so, how is that determined?

No, just the hostname. The MAC is only used for the license file creation/validation.

It is quick to regenerate a license file if necessary, or simply clone a MAC address. In any case, I can move a license manager in less than two minutes.

Usually there is a timeout as pointed out. By
default this is about 15 minutes.

Yes this is how it works out for majority of users. The days with long
downtime are fortunately gone by now.
Cheaper and better computer equiptment naturally also has a part of the
reason why.
