    Netware vs NT Server?

I know I'm going to draw a lot of flak over this, but with so many more
problems reported with AdLM and Novell Netware (compared to the postings
mentioning NT Server), I would think Autodesk would politely advise (or
suggest) newcomers to buy a single dedicated NT server box to host their
AdLM on, even on a Novell LAN. (I'm running for the back door now, take
    your time loading your guns!...)

I agree. But I wouldn't spend the bucks for NT server, NT workstation would
be just as stable and cost less.

True, as long as you have no more than 10 users.

That's not really an issue since you don't have to attach to the workstation
to get a license. We ran our 20-seat ADLM on workstation for months without
    any problems.

You are correct, James. The specific reason for this is that AdLM uses udp
packets which by definition is connectionless.

A good solid Win9x workstation will also do fine. We have been running ADLM
on an old 486-66 with Win95 for over 9 months. We have about 16 LDD
licenses, and a Novell 5 network with 9x and NT workstations. The ADLM PC
don't even have to be logged into Novell to work.

The key items are 1) the PC and OS must be solid and stable with good NIC.
    2) don't use it for anything else. We usually reboot every 2 weeks, just to
free memory. Before that we ran on a P200 workstation, but the local usage
caused too many crashes and restarts.

    Hey Dave;-)...

Ya know I spent 12+ years as a Novell Administrator. The problems are
almost always on the Novell client side and most of that is fighting with
Microsoft;-(... As far as running the License Manager on the Novell
Server, it is ROCK SOLID. I can go a year with out re booting my Novell
Servers, not true on the NT side;-(...

I guess for me who runs a Novell and NT network full time even at home, that
I would stay with Novell if I already had it, but probably pick NT if it was
a NEW setup and I had never used Novell.

    Take care.

    Bud;-)

how is your ACADSERVER variable setup on your clients?
any instructions for making this dedicated client option work out would be very much appreciated.
