Installation & Licensing

HI!!!
ONE OF MY CLIENTS IS RUNING NOVELL 5.0.

WHEN I INSTALLED AUTOCAD 14.01 IN HIS WORKSTATION, IT WORKED OK, BUT
HE INSTALLED IT IN OTHER WORKSTATION (AS ADMINISTRATOR) AND WHEN HE
TRIED TO RUN IT (AS ADMINISTRATOR) HE GOT THIS MESSAGE:

FATAL ERROR: Security system(hardware lock or network license) is
not functioning or is improperly installed.

WHAT CAN I DO.

Hi Jose,

First off, THERE'S NO NEED TO SHOUT. It's aggravating my hangover. ;o)

Seriously though, we need more information to give you a definite answer.
I'm assuming you have IPX running on your server, otherwise it wouldn't work
at all. Double check the workstation to be sure that IPX support is
installed.

Another thing you might want to check is how many licenses your ADLM
administration program tells you that you have, and how many you have
available. Occasionally it doesn't release licenses. I know the message
says it's not installed properly, but back when I was running ADLM, it
seemed to toss out messages at random.

Note I said back when I was running ADLM. I tried getting it to work well
on our Netware 5 network, and it was just too flaky for us. It'd drop
licenses in the middle of sessions, it'd take out multiple licenses if a
single workstation was running multiple sessions, wouldn't release
licenses... You get the picture. I gave up and installed standalone copies
when the architectural department turned into a lynch mob.

If you get it to work consistently, I'd be interested to hear how you did
it.

THEY HAVE IPX AND TCP PROTOCOLS, BUT AUTOCAD IS INSTALLED AT IPX. THEY HAVE
INSTALLED 2 LICENSES OF ACADR14.01 AND 2 OF MDT 3. THE TYPE OF INSTALLATION IS
CLIENT AND SILENT MODE. I INSTALLED THE PROGRAM IN 1 MACHINE (THE
ADMINISTRATOR'S) AND IT WORKED OK. BUT WHEN HE INSTALLED ANOTHER NODE, AND TRYED
TO RUN IT, IT DIDN'T WORK.

THE MAIN PROBLEM IS THAT I NEED IT WORKING, BECAUSE IF THIS WORKS, THEY'RE GOING
TO BUY MORE LICENSES.

THEY HAVE 10 LICENSES STAND ALONE, BUT THEY WANT TO CHANGE THEM TO NETWORK.

Jose,

Leaving your Caps Lock key on when composing messages results in interpreted
SHOUTING. Shouting can be effective at times when used sparingly to make a point.
Entire messages in shouting (upper) case can be taken offensively in the on-line
world, very much the same way as if the shouting were occurring verbally in person.
Besides, it makes messages hard to read and intimidates others from commenting on
your messages. So, please switch to conversational case.

About your problem, make sure that your client systems are using the latest version
of Novell's Client32 for Netware. The Microsoft Client for Netware will not work.
If you have routers, SAP must be enabled and SAP 2064 must be unrestricted. Also,
set the ACADSERVER variable on your workstation. The AutoCAD Help system has
information on setting ACADSERVER. Also assure that IPX is the primary protocol on
your workstations.

OK, sorry. I didn't know there where rules about writting, it's just that I've been
writting with caps for 8 or 10 years, but if I have to write here or to another
newsgroup I'll take the suggestion.
