Move from one server to another

I am a new to administering AutoCAD and couldn't find immediate satisfaction so thought I would post and see if anyone could help!

We are moving our AutoCAD program files et al from one server to another. On the server we are moving to I have installed the LM but was wondering if we just copy the existing Image folder from old server to new? Are there any paramter changes required? I would like to get the old server off the network this week end and finish everything up without a break in service, thanks!

Please give us some more details:
Are you running the Network version for installation, or actually running
the hosted version?
Are you going to be installing new seats any time soon?
Do you have the NIC and other information for the new server?
What version of Acad and the LM are you talking about?

All fair questions my apologies for not providing the information before hand...What I would like to do is create a client deployment folder (I have already installed the AD LM). But what I want to do is copy the existing setup.exe and deployment folder from the old server. This so we can load a standard version from the desktop. I don't want to run the program on the server just have the setup folder available for installation on each workstation.

The version is AutoCAD 2000. We plan on adding 7 seats before the end of September.

I can easily obtain the NIC info from the server we are moving to. I hope that helps you help me! TIA

I think you'll have to create a new image. Sorry. I believe that there are
some pointers in the Setup.exe that point to the UNC name of the
installation server. I would try it, and if it runs, great!

The other thing you'll have to do is search for the licpath.lic file in one
of your current installations. Edit this with Wordpad or some such to point
to the new server. You'll need to input the MAC address of the new server in
this file, so get it from the LMTools before you edit the file. When you
have this, put it somewhere on the network.

Assuming step one works, and the installation is OK, you'll want to copy
this lic file over the one that gets installed by the Setup.exe program.
That image points license requests to your old LM installation, this new
file will point to the new LM installation.

Hopefully, Jason or one of the adeskers will come tell me if I missed a
step, but this should cover it I think.

I did this recently, copied all deployment folders and files from the old
machine to the new machine. But I also moved the nic card from the old
machine to the new machine and named the new machine the same as the old one
and changed the old machine name.
Phew, that was a mouthful! It worked very well for me.

If the server name and/or MAC address is
different you will new a new license file from AutoDesk. The LicPath file will
have to be revised on all clients as James stated but I think there is a
Knowledge Base article that says you can use the old image folder by revising
the Land.inf file. ID: TS29903.

James,
What if there are no licpath.lic files on any of the clients that report they are using a liscese from the server? I have learned this setup image was upgraded from R14 to 2000i...again I have so little time to adminster this I looking for the wasy answers here! ANy ideas if there are any other files to look for other than the one mentioned above? TIA

LICPATH.LIC is used in AutoCAD 2002 and 2004, not
earlier versions.  Server resolution is set using the ACADSERVER variable
in earlier versions.  If you are moving the license server you will need to
install it on the new server and authorize it, you can not copy  the
files.  The same goes for deployments.  You can change the ACADSERVER
variable at existing workstations but to install others you will have to create
new deployment images as they can not be moved.   See

 for
more information on the license management used with AutoCAD versions 14, 14.01,
2000 and 2000i.

So changing this value:

AcadServerValue=SERVERNAME MACADDRESS

In the appsetup.inf file in the deployment install directory will not work
and why not?

Because earlier deployments had hard coded paths embedded into them and thus
we do not recommend moving them. Also, syntax for ACADSERVER is not the
same as the variable used with FLEXlm. The MAC address is never used for an
ACADSERVER variable and the "@" symbol mean very different things between
these variables. Search the Autodesk support knowledge on ACADSERVER for
more information.
