Migrating license files to new FlexLM

We are currently running Acad Mechanical 6. Can I move that license
file to the new version of FlexLM and then add the license file for
Mechanical 2006 so we can make a smooth transision?

Then of course remove the license file for the old version.

If that's not the best way. What is?

Thanks,
Kevin

Only if the Host ID Name (the MAC Address of the network card) is identical
for the old license server and the new license server. Same issue with the
Server Name. If the either the Host ID Name or Server Name changed then you
will have to get a new license file from Autodesk using the new info.
See Network Licensing Guide for how to get the Host ID Name and Server Name.

It would be on the same server, so that info is still the same. I would
be uninstalling the current FlexLM and installing the one supplied with
Acad 2006.

Make sure you stop the FlexLM service. Then you can install the new FlexLM service over the top. Append your old license .lic file information with your new 2006 license and restart the service.

Worked great for me. Good luck!

Did you happen to notice which files got updated?
Last time it was just 4.

I think more files were added than changed, besides the main executable.

That's too bad.
Last time you could stop the service , copy the files and start the service. So this sounds like a stop the service, install the new Flex and start the service.

Oh yeah, exactly. If my memory serves me correctly, you also need to have MSI 3.0 or later already installed. If not, when the new FlexLM upgrades, it will update your Windows Installer and then require a reboot. Fun!

Might as well get a one-up on them and download the new MSI 3.1 that was released by Microsoft this Monday.

I installed the License Manager into a new server.
Do you know how to create a new .lic file? I am tempted to copy and edit to change the server name since everything else look the same, but there are couple of numbers that might be the SID or something specific to the server?
What I need is to create a new .lic file and .log file... any clues will be greatly appreciated.

Autodesk has to generate a new license file for you.
