Migrating License Server

I cannot get a new licesnse server to work.  The old one still works fine.

I installed the LM on a new server with a different host name.

I got a new license file from AutoDesk.

DNS is set up to point to the IP address.

The Workstation and ping the server with the new host name.

The Server can ping the workstation with the new host name.

When I enter the new server host name in the licensing dialog that pops us, it cannot find it.

I tried an environment variable,. It did not help.

I changed the host name in the LICPATH.LIC file.  It did not work.

I changed the registry key.  It did not work.

I took the old server off line.  This did not help.

Any more ideas will be appreciated.

What is the error code that you get?

Also, try the system environment variable for FLEXLM_TIMEOUT with 1000000 as the value.  And make sure that the firewall on the new machine is not blocking connectivity.

If the problem is Windows 7 and Server 2008, it could be an IPv6 issue.

Thanks for your reply.  The firewewalls are both off.

Some machines, but not all, have started to connect to the new server.  I will add the timeout also.

It may be a DNS caching problem.  TIme will tell.

Thanks,

Yeah, DNS can affect this greatly.  A hosts file addition can bypass this problem in the future and also enforce an IPv4 connection.
