Maya 2012 x64 on Ubuntu 11.10

I've been trying for hours and hours now to get Maya 2012 to run on Ubuntu 11.10. I have everything in order, I'm fairly certain, with the exception of this error which I receive when trying to run maya via the "maya" command:

/usr/autodesk/maya2012-x64/bin/maya.bin: error while loading shared libraries: libtiff.so.3: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Can anybody help me with this? I know there is technically no support for Ubuntu but any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

sudo ln - s /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libtiff.so /usr/autodesk/maya/lib/libtiff.so.3

sudo ln -s /lib/libcrypto.so.0.9.8 /usr/autodesk/maya/lib/libcrypto.so.6

Do you have a similar incantation for Maya 2013 x64 (as well as Softimage 2013 x64) for Ubuntu?

Am currently at FC14, would like to update O/S as well but FC16 doesn't work and tempted to go to RHEL 6.2.

TIA,

Henry
