Maya 2012 "Failed to connect to server. Error: 0x800401F0"

We have successfully created a Maya 2012 deployment package for Windows 7 64 bit, but each time we try to create a deployment package for Windows XP 32 bit, the installer fails with alert window text "Failed to initialize Autodesk Maya 2012".

The Windows application log lists a warning "Failed to connect to server. Error: 0x800401F0".

This happens with either choosing to create a deployment or run an installation.

It happens on a freshly imaged XP machine with all service packs, updates, etc.  The machine meets the prerequisites (a Dell 390). Basically, the same image we have previous versions of Maya / Max on.

Help appreciated.

Thanks
