Hey everyone,
I was hoping that someone could help me get up and running with maya 2011. I’m an art student, and I downloaded Maya 2011 off the Autodesk website for use with school work in the fall, however, I’m having some issues. It installed fine (so far as I know, anyway), but when I try to open the program, I get the following message:
License was not obtained
Tried Maya 2011 (657C1 2011.0.0.F), error 20
License method:
environment variable MAYA_LICENSE_METHOD=’standalone’
Product choice:
environment variable MAYA_LICENSE=’unlimited’
License file override:
environment variable MAYA_ALT_EN is not set
I’ve searched high and low for an answer, but I haven’t come across one yet, despite two days of searching. I’m hoping someone here can help me with the solution. In case anyone has any idea what’s going on here, I’ll list my computer’s software and hardware specifications, etc.
MacBook Pro, mid-2009 unibody, 2.53 GHz intel core 2 duo, 4 gigs of ram, 256mb NVidia GeForce 9400M graphics card.
Currently, I am running OSX Snow Leopard, version 10.6.4, on a recently replaced 320 gig hard drive (fresh from apple yesterday).
I also have the serial number and activation codes for Maya, and as far as I know, I installed it all properly, which is why I’m stumped. A HUGE thanks in advance to anyone who can provide any help at all (even if it’s not much in your eyes, it’ll make a world of difference to me).
Also, as I’m a new member, I apologize if this has been discussed before, however I did a search and nothing came up for me. Additionally, I’ve read the user installation manual (it bears no specific mention of this problem/error) and I’ve scoured the Autodesk website to no avail. Seeing as all of these labours have fallen short of the mark, this post is as much a plea as a question, if you get my meaning!

hi
i did try to change the language and set it to english but i still have the same problem!!!! please tell me what should i do?
Go to Page 6 of this post. Basically, you need to delete the Maya folder in the Applications and a couple of other extra folders. Then re-install the software....
Please go to page 6 for this topic and read my post number 59 with answer to your post. In my answer I wrote you that your solution did not work.
David,
I'm at my wits end! I think I've spent over 8 hours reading the forums and trying different things. I'm on Mac OS X and my language is set to English, but this solution of deleting the two folders and then re-installing Maya as a trial did not work for me. I am still getting the "error 20" message when I run the application.
One thing that might help is if you could explain how to completely uninstall Maya. I'm wondering if there's a file or directory someplace that I'm not deleting before I do a re-install. I have just been deleting the Autodesk folder in Applications. Do I need to delete anything else before trying to re-install? I've included the text from two of the log files below, in case that helps.
Any help you can provide would be much appreciated!
Thanks,
Nicole.

My Maya 2011 license stopped working suddenly and I got the same error 20. Tried to uninstall and reinstall as a trial several times and still got the error. I'm using English so that wasn't the issue. Even tried installing Maya 2012 and still had the problem.
This solved the problem for me:
1. Open the file ~/Library/Preferences/Autodesk/maya/2011-x64/Maya.env
2. Add these lines to the file:
MAYA_LOCATION = /Applications/Autodesk/maya2011/Maya.app/Contents MAYA_LICENSE_METHOD = Standalone MAYA_LICENSE = Unlimited
3. Save it and start Maya.
Hope that helps!

Hi everyone,
I FINALLY FOUND A SOLUTION to fixing the error "License was not obtained
Tried Maya 2011 (657C1 2011.0.0.F), error 20" and I thought I would share.
I have been trying to solve this for two weeks straight, looking through all the forums, and going back and forth with Autodesk, all to no avail. Finally, I found a solution. Here it is.
You need delete the file Maya.env which can be found below. This file is corrupt and is preventing you from booting up Maya. Even after you have uninstalled the software, it will still remain there, that is why uninstalling and reinstalling didn't work. You have delete this Maya.env file and when you start up maya again, it will generat a new Maya.env and then it should work.
home user folder (not the hard drive) > Library > Preferences > Autodesk > maya > 2012 -x64 > Maya.env
If you need any help, feel free to email me directly at Johnnythaitran@gmail.com because I went to highs and lows to find a solution and I would want the same done for me. I hope this message finds you if you are looking for a solution.
Johnny
Hey guys,
Thanks to all of your advise problem solved.
I did as hashim.mundol wrote in post # 26. and johnnythaitran in # 68
This same problem crept up all of the sudden after I had a hard drive die on me. I had just done a batch render that took a couple of days and noticed an error on one of the render layers, so I opened Maya to fix and it gave me this error. I've reinstalled the software, downloaded the latest service pack, I've deleted things from the library etc but no luck. I'm on a Mac, osx 10.8.5. Any help would be appreciated.
Hi!
I just would like to say that the syntax for IP is:
127.0.0.1:2080
instead of
127.0.0.1 2080
Hope this helps others!
